I felt the need to address this issue here because it is related to me, an admin, and the RP.

What is Plagiarism?

Many people think of plagiarism as copying another’s work, or borrowing someone else’s original ideas. But terms like “copying” and “borrowing” can disguise the seriousness of the offense:

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to “plagiarize” means

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own
  • to use (another’s production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else’s work and lying about it afterward.

But can words and ideas really be stolen?

According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property, and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).

All of the following are considered plagiarism:

  • turning in someone else’s work as your own
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
  • failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
  • giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
  • changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
  • copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on “fair use” rules)

Most cases of plagiarism can be avoided, however, by citing sources. Simply acknowledging that certain material has been borrowed, and providing your audience with the information necessary to find that source, is usually enough to prevent plagiarism. See our section on citation for more information on how to cite sources properly.

It came to my attention this morning through a message that someone was stealing from this RP, from me specifically. I can’t let that go and I won’t. I have no tolerance for this kind of foolery and it upsets me because people work hard on these things. I worked hard on this character. This character was worth four freaking years of back story and character development. When you steal the main structure of a character I’ve had, especially one that’s as important to me as Lou, not to mention make it seem as if it’s a fill-in-the-blanks questionnaire, I’m not cool with that. So let’s get this straight. This RP was inspired by a lot of movies Ray and I love. The main plot, however, was by us. The plot twists, like the tasks, were all planned by Howie, Ray, and me. A majority of the characters here are owned by Ray and me. The others were written by the members here.

Summer Angelou Buffett/Summer Louise Buffett/Louise Andrea Buffett/Genesse Louise Buffett/Louise Nicolai Buffett is mine. I don’t share her. Last time I checked, I never allowed anyone to base anyone on her especially since I was never informed. The Buffett family name may be real life, but their back story here is pretty much different from the real Buffetts except for the fact that they’re multi-billionaires, so credit for that goes to me as well. Their last name isn’t common at all so don’t tell me it was coincidental. Not everyone does an entire day of research on a family that fits the character and land with the last name Buffett. The same thing goes for Shiloh Ervin Ross/Shiloh Kristoffer Ross/Shiloh Kristoffer Ferarri. The Ross/Ferarri family name also belongs to Ray. With that said, using them or taking them without telling us will upset me and I will not hesitate on revealing your identity especially since I, specifically, mentioned before that the Buffetts and Lou Buffett are mine, and that stealing from us will not lead to happy relationships. Her personality, description, history, likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, secrets, etc. are all mine. Asking me if you can copy or base a character on her is not an option. I won’t let you because Lou is not a canon character. She’s an Original Character that I don’t share. I’m being selfish? I share food not characters and boys. Can’t deal with it? Not my problem you didn’t come up with her before I did four years ago. I’m being rude? You were being disrespectful, leaving me with no choice but to address this issue. I suggest you practice creativity and come up with a whole new idea for a character on your own. Yes, I am highly territorial about my main girl because she is my number one. Anyone would be upset if people don’t respect that.

Taking or basing anyone on her or anything on this site without the rightful owner’s consent will be highly frowned upon and will definitely result to being kicked out of TSAH or reports to the authorities cause plagiarism isn’t cool. Upon joining this site, we let you read rules, and we hold you responsible to follow them. Nobody forced you to join, and joining means you are agreeing to the rules. It’s as simple as that. Please be mature enough to at least respect me and Ray. This is highly disrespectful and I’m not okay with that.

To whoever is stealing from me or Ray or TSAH, we’re giving you a chance to come clean privately and apologize. Not complying to this will result to exposure through screen shots. Don’t test me. I’m not kidding.
